Email to Parents 12/02/21

Dear Parent/Guardian, As we approach the midterm break, again we would like to commend our students on their engagement and commitment to their learning over recent weeks. It has not been easy for our students and they have been remarkable in a very challenging situation.

  • We would like to remind our 3rd year and TY parents that the closing date for receipt of applications for our Senior Cycle programmes is Friday 26th February 2021. Please find frequently asked questions outlined below.
  • We will have our annual Wellbeing Week in March in our school. We would like to acknowledge students who may have achieved something over recent months that you as a parent feel should be recognised. We are hoping to focus this on non-academic recognition. Please forward the name of the student and the achievement with the title ‘Student Wellbeing’ in the subject bar to alisonperris@kingswoodcc.ie by Friday 5th March 2021.
  • Information and support from the HSE for parents and guardians; Here is the direct link to the February HSE Health and Wellbeing Newsletter:

FAQ(Frequently Asked Questions)-Senior Options Programme Choices.

  1. Can a student do the LCA programme after completing the TY programme?

Yes. Students who have completed the TY programme will have the option of moving on to either the LCA or the LCE programme.

  1. Will there be extra supports/more academia in place in TY to make up for loss of learning in 3rd year?

Students continue with all their core subjects in TY as usual, which continues to build on their work both in school and online in 3rd year. When accepting their place in TY, students are expected to engage fully in, and commit to all aspects of the programme.

In TY skills and content are further developed to prepare students for Senior Cycle programmes. Every effort will be made to ensure students are ready for moving onto 5th year after TY, as happens every year.

  1. What options are available to students who have an exemption from Irish?

Students who are exempt from Irish will study Geography when Irish classes are scheduled. This is to ensure they have the minimum requirement of 6 subjects for their Leaving Cert examination.

  1. What will be done with students if there is no work experience next year?

While every effort will be made to ensure students get the full benefit of work experience in

TY and LCA, we will follow public health advice at all times. Work experience weeks(x2) will

be timetabled as always for these classes with the flexibility to move them to later in the year

should the need arise. If work experience cannot happen due to public health advice, we will

endeavour to provide the students with other experiences in school and/or online.
